Last week was a busy one for me. I was on vacation and spent most of it at my local music venues. Here’s a little recap of all the fun shows I witnessed. Grizzly Bear put on a breath-taking performance at the Tabernacle on Monday. Their new album Shields was meant to be heard and appreciated live. Tuesday, I did a genre switch and went to the Masquerade for all things metal with Order of the Owl, Weedeater, and Saint Vitus. I ventured downstairs to catch some of Strung Out‘s punk rock set and was greeted by the crowd going absolutely insane by moshing, crowd surfing, and beer throwing. I then went to East Atlanta to catch Mirror Mode and Molly Nilsson at 529. Molly Nilsson’s set was a straight up dance party. The crowd was loving it. I then decided to catch Swank Sinatra‘s set at Eastside Lounge and that was my favorite part of my busy Tuesday night. They play gritty rock & roll and have SO much energy that it transfers to the crowd. They never disappoint. At one point they made their way in to the crowd to shake everybody’s hand while their drummer was creating a beat on everything from the staircase to an empty liquor glass. Wednesday, I was treated to a fun electronic dance set by Niki and The Dove and serenaded to by Twin Shadow at the Earl. Friday at the Basement, I was reminded why Brittany Bosco and the BOSCO band rule because every time I see them perform they get better and better. Fine Peduncle, like always, put on a memorable performance. Saturday was filled with female fronted folk-country-americana music at the Earl with Midnight Risers, Delicate Cutters, and the Villian Family. Anytime banjos and pedal steel are involved I am pretty sure I will like the music.
