October 1, 2011 – Show Round Up

Being such a loyal music fan it is always difficult choosing which show to go to when there are multiple shows during one night.  October 1st will go down in history as one of the best nights for music in Atlanta and also the most insane because there are so many shows to choose from.  I have round up an extensive list of shows that I would love to attend but unfortunately there is only one of me.  There is no excuse to stay home on Saturday so I hope this helps make your decision easier of which shows to check out.
Read all about the shows after the jump:

Smith’s Olde Bar – More Info
HoneyHoney and Joshua James are embarking on the Ten Buck Tour which is an extensive U.S. tour with tickets costing around ten bucks each night.   HoneyHoney is an indie folk/bluegrass band from California and lead vocalist Suzanne Santo can play a mean banjo.  I saw HoneyHoney perform at the Loft earlier this year and have been a fan of their music for years.
Masquerade – More Info

Austin Archer, Wire Method

Austin Archer from right here in Atlanta is celebrating the release of “Venture to Breathe.” This 6 song EP was recorded and mixed by Jeff Malpass at Marigolds & Monsters in Atlanta with artwork by Brian Manley of Fun With Robots.  I got a chance to check out the EP and it is a great indie acoustic rock album.  An absolute favorite of mine, Wire Method, is playing as well and these young musicians put on one of the best live shows around.
The Earl – More Info
Viva Voce is performing at the Earl and I have known about this show for quite some time now.  It could even be since their album “The Future Will Destroy You” was released earlier this year.  This two piece band from Portland, Oregon plays bad ass psychedelic rock & roll I wish I knew how to play.  I am sure their live set is just as great as their recordings.  The Parson Red Heads and Lily & The Tigers will also be playing.

Basement EAV – More Info

Dirty Pollyanna, The Coathangers

Rock and Roll for Wishes benefit show will be featuring Atlanta bands Dirty Pollyanna and The Coathangers.  All proceeds from this show go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  I haven’t had a chance to check out Dirty Pollyanna yet and this could be a perfect opportunity and it’s for a good cause.  The Coathangers is an all girl punk rock band that know how to put on a killer show.
Highland Ballroom – More Info

Bosco, Jack of HeartsWhat Happened To Your Fire, Tiger?

Girls Night Out at the Highland Ballroom!  I’ve written about how amazing Bosco is and her energetic stage presence.  I saw Jack of Hearts rock the stage for their CD Release at the Basement and they were great.  This show is going to be a good one.

Dark Room, Fine Peduncle

Beatlanta House – More Info
If you are in the mood for a house show this is your best bet.  Dark Room, featuring members of Jungol, put on a great moody and atmospheric electronic show filled with lots of sound and not a lot of vocals.  Dark Room speaks through the music and it is a powerful thing.  I have heard nothing but great things about Fine Peduncle and his one man live shows. This is a FREE show and DJ Wolf will be spinning after the bands.
