529 Venue – June 23, 2011

I found out about Eudora June when I met front woman Christina Belknap at a show a few months ago.  She mentioned her CD Release Party at 529 and I knew I had to be there. Eudora June’s new album ‘Siren Song’ was hot off the presses and available for purchase that night and I’ll get in to how awesome it is later on in this post.  I loved every aspect of the night including the production, the bands, and the local support.  The venue was packed with friends, fans, and fellow musicians making the vibe just right for a good rock show.  I wouldn’t consider Belknap your ordinary singer/songwriter, because she plays electric guitar and her voice has full range to rock.  The whole band, from drums to bass to guitar were great and their set was explosive.  I can’t wait to see Eudora June play again and at different venues like Smith’s Olde Bar which they happen to be playing at on July 22nd!

Now let’s talk about the music. ‘Siren Song’ is comprised of six songs that are well crafted gems and I have been playing on repeat since I bought it Thursday night.  Christina Belknap has such a wide vocal range where she can be soft and loud and gut wrenching and everything in between. Something else I like about ‘Siren Song’ is the fact that the music holds nothing back as far as lyrics go.   Lyrics that make my heart hurt but also I feel inspired by.  Inspired to be able to express my feelings and not feel vulnerable but instead relieved or enlightened.  Music is the art of expression and ‘Siren Song’ is a beautiful piece of art.  Please listen below to some Eudora June tracks including my favorites Mama and Runaway. If you are in the Atlanta area make sure to catch their show!

Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters played an impressive set.   I am a huge fan of their style of music which is deep and dark folk rock.  It was the first time seeing them play and it definitely won’t be my last.  Mountain Lion put on a fun show as well.  It was such a great night for local music.
