Big Jesus, Whores –
529 Venue – May 7, 2011
I am a fan of small venues where I’m inches away from the music and 529 is a great place to experience just that. This venue is so small that only the people in the first few rows can actually see the band while the rest of the crowd can just enjoy the music. Big Jesus, a recently signed Favorite Gentleman artist, played their debut show on April 7th to a packed room at 529. There was a diverse line-up that night including a local favorite the Whores. This three piece Atlanta metal band puts on a great show that was so heavy their drummer busted his drumhead in the middle of their set. Their sound is loud but so catchy and they keep getting better with every show they play.
After listening to Big Jesus and their four song Self Titled EP I was ready to see what they would do on stage. Their EP was well recorded and very polished but their live show still needs tweaking which is understandable for a new act. These guys are not strangers to the stage with members hailing from other established bands including O’Brother. I will definitely be looking out for future Big Jesus shows and I know they are going to impress many more live audiences.

Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun – The Earl – May 7, 2011
Once I left 529 I walked down the street to The Earl to catch some of Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun’s CD Release party for ‘Wildfire‘ The Earl was packed as well and I love seeing so many people out supporting local music. I was pleasantly surprised with this band! I would consider their sound dance/electronic but their vocals were strong and they had a great presence on stage that was fun and engaging. Their album ‘Wildfire’ is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It’s so original and refreshing. Great band. Look out for them!
