The Civil Wars ‘Barton Hollow’

I have been a fan of the Civil Wars for a couple of years now and this singer/songwriter duo is going great places.  With their recent visit to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and their new album that released less than a week ago on February 1st they are getting a wide range of exposure.  This week the title track off their new album ‘Barton Hollow’ was the free download on iTunes.  Not only that their album was the number one selling pre-order on Amazon for weeks and since Barton Hollow’s release it is already #1 on the iTunes charts!  What I love about The Civil Wars is that they are so humble and have such a great natural chemistry.  It certainly is a perfect match musically for Joy Williams and John Paul White and their music appeals to many different types of music listeners.  I can say that I have loved everything that these two have created and Barton Hollow is no exception.  With the use of different instruments, the stripped down sound of their music, and well written lyrics Barton Hollow provides a mixture of songs that will excite and also bring out your deepest emotions. Overall Barton Hollow is exactly what I expected and so much more.  I highly recommend this purchase.

The Decemberists  ‘The King is Dead’

I have to admit that I have been a fan of The Decemberists for a while now but I haven’t been a dedicated one.  From the first listen of ‘The King is Dead’ I can say that I am going to be now.  I am very fond of the direction the band went with ‘The King is Dead’.  The folk-rock sound and the flawless vocals from Colin Meloy captivates me and makes me want to hit repeat. Some of my favorite songs are “Rise to Me” and “Rox in the Box”.  Take a listen and discover your new favorite album.

The Get Up Kids  ‘There Are Rules’

I was so excited to hear that The Get Up Kids were reuniting.  I was even more interested to hear their album ‘There Are Rules’.  Not knowing for sure what to expect I absolutely love it from start to finish.  ‘There Are Rules’ kept my attention and I couldn’t wait to hear what each track was going to sound like.  Great Album, Great Band.  This reunion was the best idea ever.

Cage the Elephant  ‘Thank You Happy Birthday’

I have listed this album as one of my picks for January solely because of one song.  “Shake Me Down” is the first single off of ‘Thank You Happy Birthday’ and it’s perfectly written lyrics speak to me.  The whole album doesn’t disappoint but there is something about that song that it has become my anthem.  I’ll keep my eyes fixed on the sun…
