Dark Room, Fine Peduncle – Show Review – October 1, 2011

Dark RoomFine Peduncle
BeAtlanta House Show

October 1st was filled with music being played all around the city of Atlanta and I chose to spend it at the BeAtlanta House Show.  BeAtlanta is a music site that features some of Atlanta’s finest bands and musicians. If that is not enough, they also host kick ass house shows for indie acts to showcase their music.
DJ Wolf kept the house moving in between and after the sets. Fine Peduncle from Knoxville, TN started off the night with his one man dance show full of electronic sounds and beats. The most impressive aspect is his vocals ranging from high pitched screams, fluid rap verses, and scandalous lyrics. Seeing Fine Peduncle live is pretty hypnotizing but can be slightly uncomfortable at times because he likes to bare all down to his tighty whiteys. If you get the chance don’t miss seeing Fine Peduncle perform, it’s pretty intense.
Dark Room may be a side project of Graham Yoder from Atlanta’s own Jungol but it is also a rare glimpse into one mans process of composing music. It’s so surreal to see musicians so in tune with each other especially considering such precise timing that goes in to creating their sound. Dark Room’s set was different from the last time I saw them at 529 with more vocals by Josh Yoder, also of Jungol, but it was still bursting with a variety of sounds and musical transitions.  Andres Miller and Graham on guitars played dark and daring notes looped in and out of various songs. Dark Room took everyone on a journey to a place where we all belong and are connected by the music, it was perfect.  I haven’t seen an audience feed off a bands energy like that in a long time.   This is what music should be like and I’m so glad I got to be a part of such a great night at the BeAtlanta house!
