Hijacking Music Festival – November 12, 2011

Hijacking Music & Art Festival 2011
When: Saturday, November 12, 2011
Where: The Goat Farm – Atlanta, GA $10
Why: Hijacking Music is an Atlanta collective of musicians and artists that represent some of the best emerging music and art in the city.  The Hijacking Music festival will bring together art, music, and community and it is a day I have been looking forward to for a while.  The Goat Farm Art Center will be a perfect venue to bring friends and strangers alike together for one day packed with performances from some of Atlanta’s finest musicians and also art displayed through out. According to the HJM Fest website “This years theme is GLOW. Your GLOW is that thing burning inside you that makes you wake up each and every day to live life and follow your passions”.  Hijacking Music’s own Bret Phillips provides even more information in the video at the botttom.  Want to know more about the who’s playing?  I have posted the sampler and my thoughts on some of the bands below.

Who’s Performing:

Anyone who knows me knows my love for A: The Color.  I have seen them play many times this year but they are one unique band that I can’t get enough of their live performances.  Prepare to witness something great.
Cloudeater is a band that many listeners can’t pin point which genre they seem to fit into.  This dilemma is good to have because Cloudeater has such a diverse sound that encompasses so many great elements like hip hop, electronic, rock, and more all in one. Since their album release I have been hooked on Cloudeater and I can’t wait to see them play again this Saturday!
Bluesy rock and roll and I am digging their song “Sheera” on the sampler.
Hello Cobra formerly The Humbolt Trio is an instrumental band and their song “Me, God, and Jesus are Going to the Movies” is my second favorite track off the sampler.  I saw these guys play when they were the Humboldt Trio and I remember thinking I wish I could play as good as them because they were so talented.
Odist is a heavy instrumental rock band featuring members of Psychedubasaurus Rex and Jack of Hearts. It is clear to see Atlanta has a great community of musicians that play together in numerous bands.  It’s a beautiful thing.
Psychedelic instrumental four piece put on a show that you don’t want to miss.  I saw them play last week and I especially liked the dueling guitar parts from their two guitarists, drum beats that craved attention they rightfully deserved, and a bass line that was fast and slow depending on the friction that the other members created.  You can’t just focus on one member of the band because there is so much greatness happening on that stage. By the end of their set it feels like everyone comes together in unison and the instruments find peace with one another.
Sneaky Hand
I haven’t seen the Sneaky Hand yet but have been told numerous times that I am missing out.  I’ve heard great things about their live shows including a lead vocalist that likes to venture out in the crowd and sing in your face.  Sounds like fun!
Tricil is featured as the opening track and my favorite from the Hijacking Music Sampler.  It’s a great introduction to Tricil and it glows just how I know this Festival will.
