Offended Youth: Listen Here |
Death is a Dialogue, The Hollywood Kills, 1994, Radio The Captain
The Vinyl – 7.30.11
I might have lost touch with music of the alternative & punk rock persuasion lately but this show definitely got me back into it. The bands were great from start to finish and it was another fun night at one of my favorite Atlanta venues, the Vinyl.
Death is a Dialogue is a punk rock band from right here in Atlanta. This band is going places and quickly because they are a hard working band and full of great rock talent. After watching one of their shows, if you don’t leave wanting to break stuff or start a revolution then you didn’t listen hard enough. Death is a Dialogue played a hefty set filled with original tunes off of their first EP, rightfully called “Offended Youth” along with newer unreleased tracks and some crowd pleasing covers varying from Rancid to The Off Spring. It’s probably a challenge to be unique in the rock world these days but Death is a Dialogue definitely proves to be their own. I definitely think they have the potential to go mainstream because their songs are catchy yet fast paced punk rock goodness that could appeal to many types of music listeners. With the recent opportunity to play the Ernie Ball Stage at the Warped Tour stop in Atlanta goes to show that this band has what it takes to play to bigger crowds on bigger stages. See the fun yourself at one of their upcoming shows including September 10th at the Basement and opening for 80’s metal band Quiet Riot in October.
Don’t Panic! |
The Hollywood Kills, a pop rock act from Nashville, TN brought a different side of rock to the stage. I love it when bands really get in to the music and just have fun but also prove that they are meant to be on that stage. These guys have perfected their rock show along with stunning vocals made for a really enjoyable set. I picked up their album “Don’t Panic” and it’s been getting a lot of attention through my speakers.
1994 is a local pop punk Atlanta band that I can proudly say I have been a fan of for quiet a while. Even with a number of roster changes, they still are persevering as a band and playing music that they are passionate about. This is a band that challenges you to think with every lyrical line in their music. I really enjoyed seeing them play their new songs that I’m less familiar with but when they threw a Mumford & Sons cover into their set I was in love. I never knew such a popular folk song as “Little Lion Man” could sound so amazing in pop rock form. Catch them opening up for another favorite of mine Hawthorne Heights at the Masquerade, September 5th.
Radio The Captain from Atlanta, I could describe as no frills rock and roll. For a three piece they have a good sound with amazing guitar work that has hints of classic rock influence but also at times a more bluesy feel. Radio The Captain is playing a FREE show at 529 in East Atlanta on September 5th.
