Sleeping in the Aviary – Featured Show – October 14, 2011

My first ever music write-up on an unknown blog back in 2009 was about a Sleeping in the Aviary show.  The show was at the 529, the day was August 22, 2009, and it was one of the best shows I had been to that year.  Here’s a snippet of what I wrote:

“I went to a really amazing show last night. -It’s Elephant’s Sleeping in the Aviary, Vegan Coke- -529 venue, East Atlanta Village- It is one of those shows where you go and you forget everything. You forget who you are, where you are from. You forget your worries and burdens. You forget where you need to be the next day. All that stuff doesn’t matter. There is no judgment here. The only thing that matters is where you are in that moment and the music coming from the speakers. You become taken over by the music and I absolutely love it. It’s the way music should be. It’s Elephant’s are a bunch of guys that are really into the music they make and they smile on stage and that causes me to smile. I have yet to mention their shows turn into dance parties which makes me smile tremendously as well. Sleeping in the Aviary, total dance party as well. I really like their sound, they put on a great energetic performance. Vegan Coke, instrumental and very powerful, I enjoyed them also. Great shows are really something out of this world.”

This was the start of my intrigue in the local music scene and what inspired me to start writing more about my experiences through music.  I give all the credit to the musicians that take the time to play shows and create music for listeners like me to attend and consume.  It’s the reason I love Atlanta and continue to love and support music!
